Hey Internet: need help. I just bought a 90 year old dining set and all the legs have these six-pronged cap things on them and I want to take them off because they’ll destroy my hardwood floors but what the hell are they?

BTW: You can buy nail-in felt or nylon glides to replace them. The point is to bear the weight of the table directly under the leg so that it’s not borne over the entire width of the foot, reducing the likelihood of the foot splitting.
